Competitions ConTEXT III
International Deadline: March 16, 2020 – Last held August 2017, the Foundry Art Centre presents an all media exhibition focusing on the written word’s role in the visual arts.
Contemporary society is saturated with media and this exhibition will showcase how intertwined the literary and visual arts are. Submitting artists can utilize the written word literally, symbolically, texturally, and/or referentially.
On display from May 8 – June 19 , 2020.
Open to all artists, 18 years and older, world-wide, both amateur and professional. This includes alternative and traditional artwork.
A maximum of 3 entries per artists may be submitted for consideration; all media in 2D & 3D forms will be considered. 2D work must be suitably framed with all hardware necessary attached to hang gallery ready. Larger pieces must be able to enter the gallery through an 84” x 71” doorway. Once installed, work may not exceed 11 feet in height. Any artist with installation or digital works must speak with the Exhibitions Manager to coordinate presentation.
Levi Sherman is an interdisciplinary artist in Columbia, MO. He received his MFA in Book and Paper Arts at Columbia College Chicago in 2015 and a BFA in Visual Communications from the University of Arizona in 2012.
Manifested in print, performance and publishing, his practice is firmly rooted at the intersection of text and image. His artist’s books are held in collections including the Joan Flasch Artists’ Book Collection and the University of Arizona Poetry Center. His critical writing can be found in Afterimage, Full Bleed, the Journal of Artists’ Books, and elsewhere in print and online.

Artists may submit up to three works for a non-refundable processing fee of $35. Foundry Art Centre members may submit up to three works for a non-refundable fee of $24.
A maximum of 3 entries per artist may be submitted for consideration.
SALES, LIABILITY, AND INSURANCE
The Foundry Art Centre will retain a 35% commission on all sales directly attributed to the exhibition. Foundry Art Centre provides standard insurance at 50% of retail on all exhibited works while on premises. Artist is responsible for work in transit to and from.
