International Deadline: February 3, 2020 – Labverde: Art Immersion Program in the Amazon functions as a multidisciplinary platform for the development of nature and ecology critical thinking. Artists, scientists and other agents of knowledge come together to recognize and narrate nature, in an attempt to create new ways of existing and interacting with the natural environment, as well as speculate on possible futures.
The program was developed in association with Manifesta Art and Culture and The National Institute for Amazonian Research. Designed by a multidisciplinary team of highly qualified specialists in art, philosophy, biology, ecology and natural science, LABVERDE aims to allow a deep understanding of the Amazon region.
The Amazon rainforest is a cosmic lab for the invention of shapes of life and matter, a complex ecosystem that holds a collection of memories of life experience on Earth. But this great biodiversity is reaching its tipping point. The life extinction of the forest is affected by local and international dynamics. The new political conjuncture in Brazil is softening the protection against the environment end its people, scaling back the effort to combat illegal logging, ranching and mining. At the same time, global warming is deeply transforming the biophysical aspects of the Forest, killing hundreds of species every year.
Program will be held during the months of August I September 2020.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE PROGRAM
Ten days sharing knowledge and practices in an intensive schedule of seminars, workshops, presentations, forest guided tours and boat trips will enhance participants’ creativity, having nature as a common ground. The program’s main focus is to promote artistic creation through a constructive debate about environmental issues generated by theory, data and life experiences in the Amazon rainforest. Transdisciplinary content will foster an analytical and critical perspective of issues such as landscape interpretation, nature representation, and the role of art in engaging social-ecological behavior.
