Competitions 31st Annual Northern National Art Competition

U.S. National Deadline: June 30, 2018 – Join artists from across the country in this esteemed national juried competition. This event, featuring works in a variety of mediums, is a cooperative venture of the Northern Arts Council and the Nicolet College Art Gallery.
The competition is open to all artists 18 years or older who are US residents. Each artist may submit images of recent, original, 2D hangable artwork in any medium including photography, fiber, and mixed media. There is no theme.
JUROR: Mark Steven Greenfield
A native Angeleno, Mark Steven Greenfield studied under Charles White and John Riddle at Otis Art Institute. He received his Bachelor’s degree in Art Education from California State University, Long Beach and a Masters of Fine Arts degree in painting and drawing from California State University Los Angeles. He served as director of the Watts Towers Arts Center from 1993 – 2002 and the Los Angeles Municipal Art Gallery from 2004 – 2010. Greenfield’s work has been exhibited extensively throughout the United States and internationally. His work deals primarily with the African American experience and in recent years has focused on the effects of stereotypes and racial politics on American culture.
More than $8,500 will be awarded, including three $1,000 Awards of Excellence. Awards are based upon the actual artworks.
A non-refundable fee of $35 will entitle the artist to submit either one or two images.
Digital images must be jpg files, 300 dpi at approximately 4 x 6 inches. Files should be named with the following format: (Last name)_(First initial)_(Title)_(Entry #).jpg
DO NOT USE Kodak or Walmart, etc. ‘Easy Share’ files.
Accepted images may be photographically reproduced for educational and publicity purposes.

All proceeds of sales are assigned to the artist. Awards will be distributed after the close of the show.
Shipped work must arrive at the Nicolet Art Gallery by September 14 and remain for the entire exhibition. You may hand deliver entries on September 15 from 10 am – 4 pm.
- June 30 Registration deadline. Postmark deadline for mailing of entries
- August 11 Acceptance notification
- September 14 Final due date for all accepted work. All shipped work must include a prepaid return label
- September 15. Optional hand delivery to Nicolet College Art Gallery: 10 – 4 pm
- September 29. Opening Reception at Nicolet College Art Gallery: 5 pm
Nicolet College Art Gallery
- November 9 Show closes. Work will be shipped back within ten days.
- November 10. Pick up hand delivered work: 10 am – 4 pm
The Nicolet Art Gallery serves as a teaching gallery with Nicolet art classes continuously using the current displays for reference and study. It also serves as a place for professional artists from the Nicolet District and beyond to display their work.
